Sunken Greenhouse

The goal is to plant citrus in the ground, allowing them to thrive near the shores of Lake Superior with minimal added energy. This prototype tests out several systems to make this possible. Passive solar and earth sheltering go a long way. As does plenty of insulation. Geothermal ventilation brings air inside at a fairly constant temperature year round, warming in the winter and cooling in the summer. Two separate earth battery systems store warmth along with a wood stove with a water jacket that feeds heat into an aquaponics pond. Scaled up, it wouldn’t make for a bad place to live.
